Bi-Monthly Meeting Announcement – Baltimore Chapter
Topic: Power and Influence in Organizations
and Everywhere Else
Presenter: Michael F. Broom, Ph.D
Thursday, June 21st 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Too much of the time we experience power
as only something necessary to ward off the power of others
who are different and threatening. Too often we experience
ourselves as powerless to direct the course of our communities
and organizations, or even our own course. However, we
can learn to mobilize the personal and organizational energy
and resources needed in today’s intense environment.
The primary framework offered has to do with two perspectives
of power. One uses differences—racial, ethnic, gender
differences as well as personality differences and differences
of opinion—to determine who will win and who will
lose. The other uses these same differences as primary
sources of learning, synergy, and new productivity. The
former enervates and disempowers. The latter energizes
and empowers. Even though only an introduction, this discussion
will be reality-based, involving, and practical.
